Abubakar Maina, a board member of Gombe United FC, a club side in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) has expressed optimism that the team would escape relegation in spite of its current position.
Maina said this in Abuja on Wednesday that the team had only a few matches to go and would do its best to win the games.
The team is on 19th position with 40 points on the league table.
The team is ahead of Remo Stars FC of Sagamu, who are last on the table with 29 points also from 35 games.
“We are still hopeful of escaping relegation and staying in the league.
“A lot of teams share the same points with us, so if we stay focused and win our remaining matches, we will be safe.
“We are preparing hard to play our last three games and with God on our side, we will be victorious in all,’’ he said.
Plateau United FC, however, is first on the table with 62 points, alongside MFM FC of Lagos and Akwa United of Uyo who is second and third with 56 and 54 points respectively, all from 35 games.
